As if Marvel’s constantly expanding cinematic and television universe isn’t massive and complicated enough, the Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have revealed the staggering number of characters set to appear in the two-part follow up to 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.
So just how many heroes and villains can fans expect to see in the plot so big its actors will be tied up filming back-to-back for nine months? The body count is currently set at 67 characters, according to Comic Book Resources.
At the Wizard World New Orleans comic con held this past weekend, the films’ directing duo offered attendees a handful of teases about the Infinity Wars story arc. It was during their panel that Joe dropped the character count bomb on fans, after his brother Anthony mistakenly referred to Peggy Carter — S.H.I.E.L.D.’s founder and Agent Carter’s central character — as Sharon Carter.
“We have so many characters we’re dealing with. We’re breaking ground on Avengers: Infinity War. We have a board with 67 characters on it. You have to forgive him,” Joe Russo told the Wizard World audience.
